Napolitiano: Sequestration Already Causing Airport Delays
WASHINGTON — U.S. airports, including Los Angeles International and O'Hare International in Chicago, are already experiencing delays in customs waiting lines as a result of automatic federal spending...

So you’re probably wondering what is sequestration, right? According to CNN, sequestration is “a series of automatic, across-the-board cuts to government agencies, totaling $1.2 trillion over 10 years. The cuts would be split 50-50 between defense and domestic discretionary spending.”
Somerhalder isn’t the only one who thinks the cuts are bad news. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the spending cuts would “cut sharply into military readiness.” If you’re still not sure what the big deal is, consider this. More than $500 billion of those cuts would be cut on “the domestic side -- national parks, federal courts, the FBI, food inspections and housing aid.”
The HuffPo story that Somerhalder tweeted about details the many organizations that would be negatively affected by the cuts. According to the site, HIV prevention programs, small business loans and early education program Head Start are just a few of the things that would suffer.
View the slideshow at the bottom of the article to see exactly what effect the cuts would have. The reports, including that up to 424,000 HIV tests would be on the chopping block, are scary.
Although the cuts are delayed slightly, it looks like sequestration is going to become a reality soon. Stay up-to-date on what sequestration means for you and your favorite causes by keeping tabs on the local news and checking out our action widget below.
